Dietitians can only work with what you tell them. These questions are designed to turn a vague appointment into a set of concrete instructions you can act on this week.
Questions worth asking
- Given my current situation, which one or two things should I focus on first?
- Are there numbers you want me to track, and what exactly should I write down?
- Which of my usual meals would you like me to describe to you?
- Are there products or ingredients you would like me to bring in and show you?
- How will we know whether this is working, and when should we review it?
- What should I do if I cannot manage the plan in a busy week?
What to bring
- Three ordinary days of food notes, not your best three days
- Photographs of two or three packaged foods you buy regularly
- Your current medicine and supplement list
- Anything you have been told by another clinician that seems to conflict
What not to change on your own
- Bring conflicting advice to the appointment rather than choosing between clinicians on your own.
